First Girls Basketball Head Coach: Kelly Nye-Hinkson
In 2006, Paulding County opened up a new high school, South Paulding High School. The mascot and colors of the school were voted on by middle school students. Board members and county employees. It became the South Paulding Spartans, with the colors of cardinal and vegas gold.
Early in 2007 within the months of February and March the school started to search for a basketball coach. Many applicants applied and Principal Dr. Kim Fraker and Marty Turner Executive Director Systems Facility decided to give the job to young coach Kelly Nye-Hinkson.
The first year the squad faced many obstacles. Coach Nye was building from the floor up and blending players from different backgounds with different roots from two middle schools South Paulding MS and Austin MS. The girls competed on a varsity level with just freshman and sophomores. But with all that they faced throughout the season they continued on and even surprised a few people on the way. The first season ended with a 7-19 record. At most times, four freshmen were on the floor copetiting against seniors. Coach Nye-Hinkson has compiled a list of "FIRST". The history has begun at South Paulding High School and the Girls Basketball Program!!! Our first game in school history was against Paulding County High School. It was played on Tuesday, November 28, 2006. Game time was 6:00 pm out the first The Spartans won 54-53!!! Coach Nye-Hinkson was the Head Coach with Assistant Coaches Shane Pecos Galamore and Lauren Kahlenbeck.
